All LGV and PCV courses will require the theory test.

The theory test is divided into two parts:

  1. A multiple-choice test comprising 100 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 85.
  2. A hazard perception test consisting of a series of video clips of actual road hazards that need to be identified. The pass mark is 67.

Practical test

The Driving Standards Agency recommends that you take professional tuition to reach the vocational driving test standard.

The average number of days training are between two and five days to reach the vocational test standard.

Your driving test will start with an eyesight check (B+E only) and some vehicle safety questions. The vocational driving test will last about 90 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for a high standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the set exercises. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.
